Fire Station Nos. 2, 6 & Training Facility

While Principal in Charge at RRM Design Group, Mary McGrath, lead the project team in the development of four successive civic projects for the City of Santa Clara Fire Department. A City-wide Training Center, and Fire Station No. 2, New Fire Station No. 6 and Needs Assessment determining the need to replace both Fire Stations No. 3 and 4. The new training center and fire station located a the existing fire department training site is situated on approximately 1.8 acres, and resides in an existing industrial neighborhood adjacent to the City’s Corporation Yard and Emergency Operations Center. The training facility serves as the Fire Department’s training center and also provide facilities for city-wide department training as well. The first level contains three conference/training rooms with full video and electronic conferencing capabilities for 200 and supporting spaces. The second floor houses the Fire Department’s training division and library. A fully-operational two-company fire station shares the facility while being completely separate operationally. The second project implemented for the City of Santa Clara is the new Fire Station no. 6. Located in the heart of the Silicon Valley, adjacent to Sun Microsystems’ technology campus, the station is designed in the Spanish Mission Eclectic architectural style similar to neighboring development. The new station supports a growing area of Santa Clara, is 8,997-square-feet and accommodates an engine company, an emergency medical team and a future truck company.
