City of Paso Robles

Paso Robles Public Safety Facility

Mary McGrath, in collaboration with Ekona (police station programming consultants), lead the team to create a technologically advanced Public Safety Facility to replace the City of Paso Robles’s antiquated fire and police stations with one building able to accommodate both departments. The facility includes all essential components for an efficient combined operation: living quarters for the firemen, apparatus bays, separate men’s and women’s locker rooms (for each police and fire personnel), a full-scale gym, a jail, a state-of-the-art dispatch center, evidence storage, a detached emergency operation center (sufficient for both departments to utilize), and supporting offices and rooms specific to the departments’ needs. The facility, which is located in central Paso Robles, was designed using brick masonry and compliments the existing fabric of downtown Paso Robles. It was completed just months prior to the 6.5 magnitude San Simeon earthquake which leveled portions of the historic downtown and was fully operational within minutes of the quake. The City’s emergency response center, located within the facility was activated immediately and was the central communication hub for the City during this tragic event.
